Big Wood River Ranch

Sun Valley, ID

Positioned between the Big Wood River and the mountains beyond, the house is organized as a pair of barn-inspired volumes that frame a sheltered courtyard and establish a strong relationship to the surrounding landscape.

A central double-height living space anchors the home, while more intimate volumes at either end create a sequence of places that balance openness with retreat. Deep roof overhangs, layered interior volumes, and carefully placed openings gather seasonal light and extend the experience of the landscape throughout the day and across the changing seasons.

The result is a home that feels both rooted and expansive—one that embraces the traditions of the rural barn while responding to contemporary patterns of family life, gathering, and connection.
